Sunderland was the 300th place alongside London to be awarded Fairtrade status in 2007 by the Fairtrade Foundation, as part of its commitment to a better future for all.
"Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world."
The award is thanks to a host of organisations, agencies, individuals and wider community; schools, churches, faith groups and retailers. There are over 150 places in Sunderland supporting Fairtrade.
